Household Hints and Tips

Medicine Scheduling

When a child is sick, or even you for that matter, it is hard to remember when you took your medication or gave it.

Here is a quick and easy tip to help you remember when medication was given, and other family members can also see so that an overdose will not occur.

Grab a grease pencil and leave it in the bathroom next to the mirror.

Now when you give or take medicine make a note of it on the mirror.

No more having to guess when medicine was given, especially when you are having to change shifts with someone else.

The Cup Runneth Over at Night?

If you have issues with leaky diapers at night and you have tried every kind of diaper on the market, try this.

Get a box of Maxi Sized and absorbent Feminine Napkins and place one in the center of a clean diaper just before bed time.

This will give the extra absorbency to hopefully get you through the night with out a leaky mess.

Monitoring Illnesses

Don’t get rid of that baby monitor when the babies are grown. Hang on to them and use them around the house.

If your kids get sick leave in their room and carry the handset around with you. Now you will know instantly if your kids need you.

This works great for kids of all ages, including spouses……

Self Tanning Streaks

You are using a self tanning lotion, but you are beginning to notice a few streaks.

Grab some pure lemon juice and using a cotton ball gently rub over the streaks. The citric acid in the juice is a natural exfoliater and lightener to help remove the streaks.

Don't have any lemon juice handy? Grab some baking soda and sprinkle some onto a damp washcloth. Gently rub the streaks in a circular motion. Baking soda also acts as an exfoliant to start removing some of the streaks.

To help prevent the streaks when you apply your tanner, combine the tanner with an equal amount of moisturizer. Mix it gently with your palms before applying and it will help to give you a more natural looking color.

Leg Burn Lament

Ladies, you love your electric razor for your legs, but sometimes you get these little burns from it sticking to your skin.

You can sprinkle some baby powder onto your legs before you start. This will help prevent these “burns” from happening.

Dog Allergy Help

You have been battling allergies for years now. You have cleaned all of the house from top to bottom with all of the special sprays and cleaners. You dust and Vacuum daily and still you battle them. In the car, at home and at work.

Now your child wants a dog….. Ok, it is not the end of the world and you don't necessarily have to say no.

Try to find a dog that has short hair and a female. Some allergy friendly dogs have been reported to be Basenji, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Poodles, Poodle Mixes, Bichon Frise, and Chinese Crested.

Research has shown that females tend to produce less allergens than males.

Get the animal from a reputable place, and don't be shy to go to the dog pound.

Spend some time with the dog before you bring it home to see how it interacts with you and your family.

Once you get it home make up a bed/kennel of it's own, (not in a bedroom) to keep most of the allergens concentrated to one area that is easy to frequently clean.

Finallhy, if you bathe your pet weekly and brush to remove excess hair you should be able to find a happy compromise.

Washing Hand Woes

The kids have been outside playing fortress and their hands are just covered in dirt and who knows what.

If you have problems getting them to wash hands, try this to make it a bit more fun.

Fill up the bathroom sink with water and add a bit of bubble bath or dish soap to the water to make bubbles.

Now just add your kids favorite toys and let them have fun splashing up the fun.

Don't worry about the mess, just throw a large bath towel on the floor to soak up the mess.

Liquid, Gummy, Chewable or Gummi Bear?

Getting kids to take vitamins can sometimes be a real trial.

You see that there are a lot of different varieties out there, but you aren't sure which ones are better than others.

Which ones will your kids take? Which ones are the most effective?

Really, in the end, it doesn't matter. You can have the best vitamin in the world, but it won't do your child any good if they won't take it.

Keep buying different kinds in all kinds of delivery methods.

Once you find one that they will take regularly, stick with it.

Every now and then try a different one for variety.
